දම්වැලේ ගැටළුව (Chain Puzzle)

පුරුක් 3 බැගින් ඇති දම්වැල් කෑලි 5ක් කම්මල්කරු වෙත ගෙනා ගොවියෙකු ඒවා එකම දම්වැලක් ලෙස  පස්සා දෙන මෙන් ඉල්ලා සිටියේය.(රූපය 1 බලන්න) කම්මල්කරුවාගේ කාර්යය ආරම්භ කිරීමට පෙර කම්මල්කරුවා ඒ සඳහා පුරුක් කීයක් කපා පැස්සිය යුතු දැයි කල්පනා කළේය. පුරුක් හතරක් කපා නැවත පැස්සිය යුතු බව ඔහු තීරණය කළේය.
එහෙත් ඊට වඩා අඩු පුරුක් ගණනක් කපා පැවැසීමෙන් එම වැඩේ කළ නොහැකිද?

A farmer brought 5 separated pieces of chain, each of consisting of 3 pieces to the blacksmith and asked him to be sold as a single chain. Before starting the work , the blacksmith think how many chain links he had to cut and weld for it. (See figure 1)

But is it not possible to do that work by cutting off a smaller number of chain links?

Explanation: We can weld 5 pieces of chain just by cutting three chain links. To do this, remove the three links from one part of the chains as shown in Figure 2 and weld the remaining four pieces of chain..
